Welcome to Sewing Construction! I hope you enjoy learning how to sew as much as I will enjoy teaching you!

Sewing is an important life skill that will save you time and money. You will be very proud of your projects this year. We strive for excellence in this class!

The skills we use in sewing are shared by many other fields such as architecture and engineering. You will learn to design and construct your own ideas as well as follow directions and diagrams.

ALL FABRICS MUST BE PURCHASED INDIVIDUALLY BY THE DEADLINE DATE.

Fabrics are available at Joann's Fabrics or other local fabric stores.

BE SURE TO CHECK THEIR WEBSITE FOR COUPONS. THEY OFFER 40-50% OFF A FABRIC CUTTING COUPONS VERY OFTEN. PRINT OUT COUPON OR GET IT ON YOUR PHONE TO USE AT THE CHECKOUT.

If you do not want to purchase fabrics, please let me know at the beginning of the course. I have a VERY limited supply of fabrics in the classroom.

The total cost of the fabric and trims needed for the DUFFEL BAG will be approximately $15 or less. You will select and purchase your own fabric for the bag at Joann's in Paramus. Check online for coupons.

You will purchase the straps and zippers for the duffel bag from Ms. Fowks.The cost of the strap and zipper is $5. 50. If you want an extra adjustable shoulder strap, then your total cost for strap, zipper and shoulder strap will be $8.30.

This is payable in cash only in an envelope with your name on it. MONEY IS DUE JANUARY 31.

1 1/4 yards. OF 58/60 INCH WIDE HEAVY WEIGHT COTTON CANVAS OR OTHER SUITABLE FABRIC IS NEEDED.

IN JOANN'S THIS FABRIC IS LOCATED IN THE SECTION CALLED "UTILITY FABRICS". ASK THE STORE PERSON WHERE THIS SECTION IS. THE FABRIC IS CALLED "DUCK" ( quack quack)THEY HAVE 15 DIFFERENT COLORS OF THIS TYPE OF FABRIC .

I GAVE EVERYONE A SWATCH OF THE QUALITY ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

BE SURE TO BRING THIS TO THE STORE TO SHOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AND TELL THEM ITS IN THE UTILITY FABRIC SECTION.

THIS IS OVER BY THE HOME FURNISHING SECTION. ITS A BIG STORE. When you enter the store, go to the right and head to the back of the store.

Pajama Pants Project- Fabric due date -FIRST DAY OF 4TH MARKING PERIOD.

The cost of the fabric for the pajama pants will be approximately $20. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS ON BUYING AND WASHING THE FABRIC.

Fabric swatches will be provided so you know what kind to buy.

THE FABRIC MUST BE WASHED BEFORE BRINGING IN TO CLASS.

THIS IS TO PRE-SHRINK THE FABRIC.

PAJAMA PANTS FABRIC NEEDED –

DUE DATE IS FIRST DAY OF THE 4TH MARKING PERIOD- This counts as a PASS/FAIL homework grade. Only on time and washed will get credit. PLAN AHEAD. BUY IT NOW OR SEE ME FOR ANY ISSUES.

ONLY BUY COTTON FLANNEL, BROADCLOTH OR SHEETING! I have given students samples of fabric types that are suitable.

DO NOT BUY POLYESTER FLEECE!!! WE CAN NOT SEW THIS TYPE OF FABRIC.

MOST FLANNEL IS 44/45 INCHES WIDE.

If your fabric is 44/45 wide- Size S/M - buy 2 3/4 yards. Size L/XL - Buy 3 yards.

YOU MUST PREWASH YOUR FABRIC BEFORE BRINGING IT TO CLASS.

WASH YOUR FABRIC IN COLD WATER.

TUMBLE DRY ON LOW. Use a dryer sheet.

DO NOT USE HIGH HEAT OR YOUR FABRIC WILL BE RUINED.

REFOLD YOUR FABRIC NEATLY WITH RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER.

If you don’t fold neatly, you will have wrinkles. You will have to bring home to re-wash if you have too many wrinkles.
