INTRODUCTION

We will explore the career of interior design and discover what it takes to be a success.

We will start with Color. Color is the most important element of design.

We will learn how color affects your emotions and perception of space. Paint mixing and color theory will be covered.

All of the elements and principles of design are used in creating a successful interior.

We will touch on each one as we redesign bedrooms and apartments for our clients.

Floorplans and room elevations will be introduced. We will watch HGTV and other videos to see how the pros do it. We will use Homestyler and Roomsketcher to create 2d and 3d views of rooms.

The Interior Design classes go on various field trips to see inspiring architecture and design.

We will take a fall trip in October. Last year we visited Manitoga.

Manitoga is located in Garrison, NY. It is the estate and house of Russel Wright, an important industrial designer from the 1930s- 1950s.

The photos below were taken during a past year's trip.

We will make our annual trip to Ikea in Paramus in the winter for our Elements and Principles of Design Scavenger Hunt.

We will visit the Highline and Hudson Yards in NYC in June.

Read Syllabus and sign. Due Sept. 13.
