The course is an introduction to modern Western economic thought, which includes the study of microeconomics and macroeconomics. In the first half of the course, we will study basic micro principles: supply and demand, markets, competition, advantage, and the circular flow of goods. The second half of the course is basic macroeconomic principles: Aggregate supply and demand, employment, government policies and monetary/fiscal policies. Students should understand basic concepts of linear equations, percentages, and basic mathematical functions, be able to understand and interpret various graphs and charts and analyze data tables. While the course is an introductory level concept course, examples used to strengthen comprehension will be practical in nature. The syllabus and planning guide match the on-campus Syracuse course, ensuring that students are getting a "genuine" exposure to college level courses
This course is a Dual-Enrollment course for those students who enroll in, and pay for, the course through Syracuse University. Students who wish to get Syracuse credit for the course will enroll in class during the month of September. Enrollment packets will be distributed on the first or second day of class and requirements will be carefully explained. All enrollment activities, including registration forms, should go directly to Syracuse University (but I need a copy of the form to submit with the class roster). You should notify me directly after you get a student ID number from Syracuse (via letter or email) so I can create an official student list. The only other information I need from you is notification if you intend to withdraw from the course. Students who do not wish to apply for Dual Enrollment will still get WHS credit [Honors Level] for the course.
