Hi! My name is Mrs. Binder, and I am so excited to begin my 18th year of teaching!
I grew up in Upper Saddle River and graduated from Northern Highlands Regional High School. I then earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, my Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2019, and my Master’s +30 in 2021.
Before coming to Berkeley, I taught 4th grade at the elementary school I attended as a child. At Berkeley, I taught 2nd grade for two years, and this will now be my 15th year teaching 5th grade—and my 8th year co-teaching with Mrs. Lansey!
Although I have loved teaching a variety of grade levels, 5th grade holds a special place in my heart. Helping students gain independence, build strong organizational skills, and prepare for the exciting transition to middle school is incredibly rewarding. Above all, I strive to encourage my students to become kind, humble, and lifelong learners.
When I’m not at school, you can usually find me on the sidelines of a baseball field with my husband, Jeff, cheering for our two boys, Jack and Dean. (Fun fact: Jack is also in 5th grade this year! And don’t worry—if you play baseball too, I’ll cheer for you even when you’re playing against River Vale!) I also enjoy baking, scrapbooking, strength training, walking, yoga, Broadway musicals, and spending time with my family—especially at my parents’ house, where I grew up, with my siblings, nieces, and nephews.
I believe that communication is very important, so if you ever have a question or concern, please don’t hesitate to email me. I’ll always do my best to respond quickly.
I’m really looking forward to an exciting, fun, and memorable school year together!
