Behavior
Come to class on time EVERYDAY. (Every 2 lates will result in a write up)
General behavior should adhere to the guidelines in the Code of Conduct for Students for Woodbridge High School.
All Woodbridge High School rules apply in the Art Room. This includes no cell phones, iPods, tablets, etc. When we are in person, we can listen to music while we work but NEVER WHILE THE TEACHER IS TALKING! Devices seen in class, without permission for your project, will be confiscated from you immediately.
Come in with a positive attitude and always be ready to engage in classroom activities. THIS WILL BE YOUR BEST PART OF THE DAY!
Respect the teacher, your peers, and the property of others. Language is a big deal so NO CURSING! How we address others and ourselves shows that we respect each other. ALWAYS!
Listen when the teacher or fellow students are speaking and do not interrupt.
Questions are welcome! Just raise your hand and ask politely.
The exchange of ideas is encouraged and social conversations are permissible while working when the teacher is not talking and you remain productive. Just keep the volume to a very reasonable level. School appropriate topics only (RESPECT!)
Exercise self-control in actions and speech.
Do not chew gum, eat or drink in the classroom! We do not want to ruin our masterpieces or the space we have! (RESPECT!)
● Make sure your device is fully charged
● Arrive a few minutes early to your online meeting to ensure you are prepared.
● Gather any necessary documents, texts, or files you may need for the day.
● Dress appropriately
● Set up at a table or desk for comfort and organization: you want to be able to keep your texts, notebook, and device close by for easy use
● Avoid doing work from your bed, or lounging on the couch; make sure you work in a space appropriate for learning. Show you are serious.
● You should be dressed as if you are going to school, inappropriate attire will result in you being removed from the lesson. The school dress code still applies.
● Make sure your microphone is off while others are speaking. Even if you are quiet, background noise may distract others.
● Pay attention to the speaker; if you have a question, use the hand raising feature or type your question in the chat. Do not interrupt the speaker.
● Your VIDEO SHOULD BE ON AT ALL TIMES during the meeting. If you have to step away, let the teacher know in the chat or verbally, then turn off your video. Make sure the image that shows when you turn off your video is school appropriate.
● If you’d like to use a background, please make sure it is school appropriate and does not distract other students.
● Stay on topic in the chat. Be polite, appropriate, and respectful.
Materials
You are expected to come to class prepared every day, which includes bringing pencils and erasers. When in person, you will have a sketchbook and project drawer. When you walk into the classroom, you immediately find your materials and settle into your seat for class.
*DURING REMOTE LEARNING, YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE YOUR SKETCHBOOK, PROJECT READY AS SOON AS YOU LOG ON TO THE LIVE MEET!
Use all materials appropriately and carefully, recognizing that others also use the same materials.
Maintain a clean workspace while you are working.
Clean up your workspace five minutes before the end of the class. When painting, begin clean up 15 minutes before the end of class.
As part of a class, you are expected to help maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the studio.
You are welcome to borrow materials from the classroom to work at home. You will be asked to sign out these materials and are responsible for their return in usable condition. Any materials not returned or returned in less than usable condition will incur a fine equal to the replacement cost of the materials.
Academic Performance
Always be prepared with materials and assignments for class.
Be original! Your work should express your own ideas. Play with new ideas and concepts and don’t be afraid to experiment and change them as you go along. Avoid using images that have become clichés. These are images that are over-used like hearts, stars, butterflies and skulls
Do not plagiarize! It’s fine to get inspiration from artwork and images created by other people, but you may not COPY them. Change them, alter them, get creative and find ways to be inspired and make them your own. “The penalty of plagiarism is a grade of zero on the assignment with no make-up permitted. The incident will be reported to the student’s parents/guardians, guidance counselor and the school administrators. A parental conference with school officials may also be required.” [BOE Policy #586] This includes the submission of written work that has been copied from another source.
Plan and organize your work. This way you will do your best work. Thumbnail sketches and your sketchbook are some of your best creative tools.
Use class time wisely and put forth your best genuine effort.
Take pride in every aspect of your work. Always present work produced with your best craftsmanship.
Participate in class and in class critiques. Offer suggestions and encouragement to your peers. Use art terminology to make constructive observations during class critiques.
Submit assignments on time. Late assignments WILL NOT be accepted.
Always see the teacher for extra help if you need it.
