1. Do your best – school is your #1 job.
2. Keep your voice off and sign. It’s not ASL if you use your voice.
3. Take care of yourself and the room. If you use something in the room, please return it to where you found it.
4. NO GUM, candy, or food allowed in the classroom. There will be NO eating while signing. Water bottles are permissible in accordance to CHS rules.
5. Be on time for class. Be seated in desk when the bell rings. If you are not, you will be marked late. You should be signing with a friend while waiting for class to commence.
6. Be prepared for class. Bring requested materials daily, and have Chromebook charged.
7. Attendance is crucial to your success in this class. If you are continually absent, you will fall behind your classmates. ASL is a visual language that is best learned in class. Be sure to get a Signing Buddy!
8. Participate in class. If you sleep or do other work in class, you’ll fall behind. Again, you should be signing with a friend while waiting for class to commence and if there is "down-time".
9. Hand work in on time. You will be docked 10 points off, if not turned in by end of the day it was due in class; 20 points off the next day and so forth. ALL missing assignments will be marked as zero in Genesis until handed in. After 3 class days it will remain a zero. Hand SOMETHING in. A zero can destroy your average.
10. Use electronic devices appropriately. Student devices will be utilized for specific purposes throughout the semester. You will not need them for the entire class and will be informed when you will need to use them in class.
11. Leave your phone in your locker, purse, or in the phone pocket. Students will NOT be permitted to use phones or watches in the classroom. The only electronic device you will need is your district issued device. If there is an emergency, please ask. If you are using your phone or watch, you're not paying attention & you will be asked to bring it to the office.
Students are expected to communicate in the target language (ASL & voice-off) as follows:
ASL 1 - 75% of the time
ASL 2 - 85% of the time
ASL 3 - 90% of the time
ASL 4 - 95% of the time
Students can expect to see blemishes on their grade if the class is communicating in ASL and they are voicing (which includes whispering). Students should try, try, and try ASL again, use gestures, written English, and even pantomime to convey their meaning before using their voice.
