Logging onto class every day with a positive mental attitude will enable you to fully benefit from this course. No person ever does top-quality work if they are concerned with other matters. Please be mentally ready for the day!
One of the ways we can assess a student’s understanding of the course work is by the student’s level of participation. SIMPLY LOGGING ON DOES NOT FULFILL THE COURSE REQUIREMENTS. Good, active participation is essential. WE WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.
The key to any student’s success in our class is for them to complete homework tasks when they are assigned. To strongly exhibit pride in your work, you must devote sufficient time to its accomplishment. OUTSTANDING WORK WILL ALWAYS BE REWARDED IN OUR CLASS! Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Per district policy, each student is to receive an hour of homework per academic class.
Be sure to include your name on all assignments with the date.
Title paper at top-center with name of assignment or essay.
Please make Google Docs double-spaced, Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font, and size 12.
Points will be deducted for each use of “wanna,” “gonna,” “IDK,” “b/c,” etc.
Use capital letters to begin sentences, for proper nouns, and for book titles.
Book titles are underlined. Short story and poem titles are either italicized or put in quotation marks—not both.
Indent paragraphs. To do this, hit the TAB key once.
In order for our class to run smoothly and efficiently, we must adhere to some community rules:
Students will log onto our Google Classroom on time to begin the day’s work. Please follow the directions to begin the day's activities. Virtual interaction will be conducted through Google Meet.
Vocabulary enhancement is an important goal in this class. Along with vocabulary from our stories/novels/plays, you will complete weekly vocabulary exercises on a website called Membean.com.
If you have a question, comment, problem, etc. during a Meet, please raise your hand to be recognized. We will also be available during our morning Office Hours. There will be an electronic schedule for individual conferencing during this time.
Students will follow the guidelines for appropriate dress code and conduct during Google Meets. Please enter the Meet with your sound muted and wait until a teacher allows permission to unmute.
Assignments are due on the date given. For EACH day late, you will lose 10 points.
We give plenty of time to complete assignments, so this should not be a problem. If a major assignment is not turned in after a week, it becomes a zero in the grade book.
(NOTE: This does NOT apply to a homework assignment that we go over in class the day it is due. Understandably, it is not fair if a student does not do their homework and copies down the answers to hand it in late. This situation will result in an automatic 50. Homework must be submitted before the beginning of the next class.)
Spelling, organization, and sentence structure will always count.
If you are absent, you can log on to our Google Classroom to find out what you missed. You are required to make up all of the work. For each day absent, you are allowed two days to make it up.
English class will not only include reading and writing. Many other subjects and skills are molded into our class!
There is a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY regarding plagiarism, cheating, and sharing/copying another’s work. (It is very obvious when you turn in work that is not your own.) Although the internet can be a great resource, it should NEVER substitute your learning or be misused for demonstration of content. Honesty and integrity are absolute MUSTS.
There will be NO foul language used. Please be mindful of how you present yourself.
Please do not eat during our live Google Meets.
No one will disrespect the teachers, or any of the other students. No student may stop a teacher from teaching or other students from learning! Please be respectful at all times!
Everyone has the opportunity to get a great grade in English this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out! Whatever your questions or concerns may be, I am certain we can work through it together.
Remember, there are many things to accomplish, so it is important that you put your best effort into everything we do!
This will be a great semester, and
it's going to be amazing working with each of you!
