At a minimum, there will be 5 major assessment and 20 minor assessments per marking period. Major assessments may be tests, essays, presentations, slideshows, or projects. Minor assessments will mostly be classwork and homework.
I try my best to make directions as clear as possible. It is incumbent on each student to read assignment directions and to ask questions when unsure about assignment directions.
I try my best to ensure students understand how assignments will be graded. I usually provide a rubric, a checklist, or I note the value of a question at the end of a question.
For written responses, I usually provide partial credit if effort is shown, even if the answer you provide is incorrect. I reward those who try!
I try to provide written feedback as often as possible. If students receive a graded assignment and are unsure why an assignment was graded a certain way, I welcome a discussion. I sometimes err in my grading. When this occurs, I encourage students to let me know so I can fix errors.
Generally, assignments should be completed on time. This includes completing classwork in class. However, I accept late work. Assignments one day late will lose five points; up to a week late, ten points; between one and two weeks, fifteen points. Missing assignments will go into the gradebook as ‘missing,’ and will count as a zero until the assignment is submitted and graded.
When students feel they have a valid reason for needing additional time to complete an assignment, I encourage them to make me aware of this before the due-date, so that we may discuss a reasonable timeline for an extension of the due-date.
