About Dr. Chen
Dr. Margaret Chen obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees at Rutgers University. There, she double majored in Mathematics and Psychology, minored in Asian Studies, and coxed for the Crew Team.
She continued her studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, and obtained her doctoral degree in 2021. Her dissertation involved examining how the SAT, developed for students proficient in academic English, may not produce reliable and valid outcomes for academically vulnerable students, namely English Language Learners (ELLs). The findings of her study contribute to the discussion on factors that lead to the marginalization of ELLs on national assessments and have important implications for test construction.
