Class Expectations

-Daily materials: Chromebook (logged into Supersite & Classroom), notebook (digital or paper), pen or pencil

- All work as well as reminders for tests and quizzes is posted on Google Classroom for your reference. 

-Classwork (minor assessment)*:  Assignments are posted daily on the textbook website (vhlcentral.com). Complete any unfinished class-work by 11:59 pm on the date it was assigned. 

-Group work: We will work in pairs or groups for speaking practice. These assignments are located in the Vtext.

-Friday Quizzes (minor assessment)

-Google Slides & Canva presentations (major assessment grades)

-Formal Tests: Listening, vocabulary, grammar, writing (1-2 times per month)

*Late work:  Assignments are accepted until 1 week after the due date. However, there will be a grade deduction of 5% for each day the assignment is late.  

AI Policy (please read carefully)

AI is permitted for translation assistance provided that you are using it like a dictionary or thesaurus (resource for looking up one word or phrase at at a time).  DO NOT type entire paragraphs into the translator.  If I see that you are using words and structures that we have not yet learned, you will be asked to translate and/or explain the meaning and how you came to that interpretation.  If you cannot adequately explain your usage, you will not receive credit for that part of the assignment.  

***Class participation is vital to your grade. You must speak and write in class as often as possible. The only way to way to master a new language is to speak it! 

Cell phone policy: As per NJ state law, cell phone usage or use of any internet device (earbuds, headphones, etc.) are not permitted at any time in class. If I see you with your phone out, there will be disciplinary consequences including possible confiscation of your phone.
