Thanks to funding from our LVMS PTA, the Long Valley Middle School community is now able to view and monitor seismic activity from around the world. A Raspberry Pi Shake & Boom contains a professional grade seismograph and infrasound monitors that can be used to record and visualize both natural and human activity. Our Station RCFFB is actively monitoring and recording seismic data.
Below is the livestream data being recorded at the LVMS station, Station RCFFB. Students will be able to integrate this technology into their science lessons as they learn about earthquakes, seismic waves, and atmospheric waves.
Our Raspberry Pi Shake & Boom is part of a global network of other citizen scientists observing, recording, and sharing seismic and atmospheric data. This networ is called ShakeNet and our Station name is RCFFB. See if you can locate us on the map. Hint: Our station is located in NJ and the map symbol is SB.
(Use this app to triangulate the origin of the earthquake)
Using a minimum of three different ShakeNet stations, you can identify the location of the epicenter of an earthquake. Our Station name is RCFFB.Â
