iPad

device for Kindergarten - 2nd grade

WSSD purchased enough iPads during the 2020-2021 school year for each student in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade to have an iPad for daily instructional use. Over the course of the year and changes in our instructional modality from all virtual, to hybrid, to full in-person, we needed students to bring the iPad back-and-forth to school. Our classrooms were not equipped with secure carts capable of charging all devices. It is important to note that buying all of the devices was a pandemic response rather than an immediate shift to a 1:1 environment, which is an important distinction as we return to a more typical classroom experience.

All Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade classrooms in WSSD are now equipped with secure charging carts and devices will remain in classrooms. In addition to knowing each student has access to a fully charged device everyday, we decrease the opportunity for loss and damage when devices go to and from school. Teachers will continue to integrate Seesaw and a wide variety of instructional apps and programs into their instruction, although it is bound to look different than last year.

The resources on this page are being offered because we thought families with personal iPads and iPhones might find them helpful.
