FCCLA

FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a student organization that takes the skills we learn in FCS and puts them into action! Students get to explore their interests, take on challenges, serve their community, and grow as leaders.

7th Grade

This semester we focus on how a democracy works, exploring roles that citizens can take in our democratic republic.

BIG QUESTION OF THE WEEK:  

How is Trianthia similar to the United States?

We've jumped right into a live action government simulation called "Trianthia." Students will be getting a hands-on look at how a democracy operates.  

We will be spending the first few weeks learning about the imaginary world of Trianthia (which just so happens to have copied it's Constitution from that amazing country, the USA!) This will allow us to immerse ourselves in this role-playing unit, where we'll learn about the 3 branches of government in action!

8th Grade

This semester we focus on developing skills that we will need in the next 5 years to be effective students and be able to launch into the world beyond high school.

BIG QUESTION OF THE WEEK(s):  

How do I tackle a project requiring creativity, productivity, and pleasing a "client"?

We are beginning our first unit, "Jolly Roger."  This unit helps students see how to breakdown and tackle a large individual & group project, with the ultimate goal in designing a flag and presenting that flag in a compelling & effective presentation.

Wayfinder Wednesdays

On Wednesdays, all 7th & 8th students will be completing lessons in the Xello career planning online platform.  Students will be discovering how to match up their interests and skills with possible future post-high school & career pathways.  

Eighth graders will also be building a Future Plan Portfolio to practice the process of evaluating these life decisions; when finished, they'll be sharing these with you!
