You've heard many of our names but have only seen just a few of us. Likely, you've seen myself, Kevin, Marty and from time to time Greg, J. Anna, Lois and Darin. But there are more hands at work in our little rag-tag group than just those few faces.
The IT department has seen many changes in the six years I've been here, but for right now? The IT team is about as strong as it's ever been and it's helpful that you all know who we are and what exactly we do!
Stephanie has a Bachelor’s Degree from Keene State College in Geography and a Master’s degree in Geography from UConn where she focused her thesis on GIS database management and spatial analysis. Stephanie joined the Town of West Springfield in 2009 as the GIS Administrator where she grew the GIS program while also managing other town databases, applications and help desk work.
In 2017 she was promoted to Chief Technology Officer when town, school and police IT support was consolidated under one department. As Chief Technology Officer, her main responsibilities include supervising the IT team, budget maintenance and planning, coordinating long term technology initiatives, and serving as the technical liaison between the IT team and the rest of the town and school departments.
Stephanie lives in Hampden, MA with her husband and three children ages 11, 9 and 7. Outside of work, she enjoys watching her children play sports, hiking with the family dog (Ginger), boating, and camping with her family.
Greg is our IT Systems Administrator for the town. He's a resident of Westfield, having lived in the valley his entire life. He's a
long term Information Technology expert, having worked in network support for many years in the insurance industry as well as supporting public school systems. He has deep experience in managing servers, virtualization administration, and many other systems.
In addition to working for West Springfield, Greg is the
director of still photography for Springfield Mass Studios. In his spare time, he enjoys repairing pinball and arcade machines, camping, and is an avid photographer.
J.Anna is our Network Administrator with over 25 years of Information Technology experience. Originally from Tulsa, OK, Jay is a native who attended Oklahoma State University (Go Cowboys!) and has a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems. After marrying an Agawam native, she moved to Massachusetts in 2008 and started working as a PC/Network Technician for the Town up until 2016.
At that time she spent a few years working for Bay Path University as their Network Administrator but eventually returned to Westside in 2019 to take on her current role. “West Springfield has always felt like home to me.”
J.Anna currently lives in Southwick with her husband, Michael, and 10 year old twins who are always keeping her on her toes.
Carlos has been with the town since 2019 and for the last few years he has been security analysist. As such he is responsible for securing Town and School assets by monitoring access, identifying suspicious activity, and preventing cyberattacks. He oversees systems, updates the infrastructure, installs patches, and protecting systems from the latest cybersecurity threats. Other duties in his role are...
Performing security assessments by conducting vulnerability testing, risk analysis, and security audits to identify and fix weaknesses.
Analyzing security breaches to determine the root cause, minimize the impact, and improve the security controls for future prevention.
Generating reports and recommendations for IT administrators and business managers to evaluate and improve the security policies and practices.
Creating and updating documentation and planning for security-related information, such as incident response and disaster recovery plans.
He has obtained all of his certifications on his own and has a strong inclination towards Ethical Hacking, Intrusion prevention and computer forensics.
Heather has been with the town for four and a half years. Heather started as level I technician managing the helpdesk, and for the last two years has enjoyed being our Data and Application Administrator.
As the data-application admin, Heather's responsibilities are to manage and assess the town's stored data, provide application support for applications like OpenGov and the Helpdesk. She also works in facilitating Powerschool fees and student device management. Lastly, she also has a hand in helping manage the town and library websites.
Hey! I'm the guy writing this thing!
I have been working for the town for six years, having been hired in August of 2017. The majority of my work is done in and for WSPS. I am one of three level II technicians, along with Marty and Kevin. My primary job duty is help you all out when things aren't working right, I.E. working and closing helpdesk tickets. But beside tickets I also run this blog, I maintain the WSPS website, manage the school and towns mobile devices (iPhones and iPads) and on the first and last Friday of the month I'm at the Council on Aging from 9am-11am helping the seniors out with their technology.
Outside of work I have all kinds of hobbies! I'm a gamer and writer with interests in fitness, board games, Dungeons and Dragons, nature walks, Photoshop... and then some. I live in Chicopee with my girlfriend, our dogs Fyneman and Ella, and cats Gandalf and Mini.
Marty is our sentient beard. That's it.
Actually, Marty is the only person in our department that came over from working for the WSPS IT department (then headed by Sue Santoni, prior the Town assuming the responsibilities of information technology) 6 years ago.
Many of the old guard know Marty. These days he's around schools less than in the past, mostly because the bulk of his work is repairing chromebooks, managing them, their inventory and repair. It's a full time job in and of itself but one shared between Kevin and I a couple days a week. That way Marty has the opportunity to get out and say hi and stretch his legs.
Beside chromebooks and tech work, Marty is a fan of hockey, fishing, and an avid reader.
Kevin has been working in Information Technology since he graduated from Porter and Chester in 2001. He has over 30 years in customer service and has been in the technical support field for about 25 years now; shared between Higher Education and the corporate sector.
With the IT Department Kevin is a Level II technician along with Marty and myself. You have likely seen him at your schools helping resolve tickets as well. In addition to the helpdesk Kevin has a focus on what we call imaging, a process of staging computers in our environment the way we like before they get sent out.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family.
"I have a talent for working with my hands, so I enjoy many things such as art in many forms, cooking, gardening, and in recent years I have found a passion for DIY home improvement projects. There isn’t much I haven’t tried, I’m kind of jack of all trades!"
Kyle is our newest addition having been rcently hired on. Before coming to the Town, Kyle owned and operated his own AV company for many years until he got hired by ATC. At ATC Kyle was in a sales, design, and installation roll where he got certifications in Extron, Crestron, QSC, and Audinate. We often worked alongside and with Kyle when he was with ATC.
Now that he's with us in the IT Department, Kyle is our resident AV person who helps coordinate events, install AV equipment for the town, schools and other departments, maintain the AV equipment around town, and assists with Help Desk.
When you put in a helpdesk ticket, before it ever makes it to the board that I and the other techs and admins work out of, it's Debbie who gets it. Often times she is our first line of defense in solving your issues. Before coming to work for the Town
of West Springfield she was working at Bay Path University as a help desk technician.
At the Town her job is running our help desk, answering the
phones, responding to tickets, prepping and imaging computers, and creating Google accounts for both town and school side.
Outside of working on computers, she likes playing sports,
fishing, hiking, and doing arts and crafts projects.
Darin is one of our newer additions and we're happy to have him! For the last 15 years he has worked in public education supporting the technology needs of students and staff.
In the IT department he is our Data Specialist and his role is to support the district's data systems and their integration. Mainly he works with Powerschool and helps many of our school clerks and administrators with its use.
Lois is our veteran employee having originally been hired by the School Department in September of 2001 and had worked at the West Springfield Middle School for 14 years!
In July of 2016, Lois began working as the Data Systems Manager. Her job is maintaining, organizing and coordinating PowerSchool SIS data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all data for State and Federal reporting throughout the school year.
She manages year-end rollover processes and new school year elementary scheduling. She also provides support to all PowerSchool users throughout the school year.
Fred has been with the Town for as long as I have been here. He is the IT Departments GIS Administrator for the city. GIS is an abbreviation for Geographic Information Systems and is a digital technology that allows for the collection, storage, analysis, and visualization of geographical or spatial data.
He works with all city departments to meet their data and project needs as well as manages hardware and equipment, like drones and GPS receivers.
In his spare time Fred enjoys cycling and hiking around New England.
Geoff studied at Westfield State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Regional Planning with a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
His current role in the IT department is as an Asset Management Analyst. He maintains water and sewer GIS data for the DPW and others who rely on it for town maintenance projects.
In addition to technology, he enjoys nature photography and visiting new cities.
