AP Design
AP Art Studio is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. The AP studio art is not a written
exam, but the creation of a portfolio that students submit at the end of the school year for evaluation. As an introductory college
course students will be expected to work in and outside of school and beyond the school day. Any students seeking to pursue the arts
beyond high school should consider this course.
*AP Art Studio: Design (ART863)
Full-year Course
Prerequisites: Successful completion of 4 or more courses in visual arts is recommended
Students will view, discuss, and create works that use design elements and principles to support artist’s intention, connect to historical,
societal and cultural contexts in an integrative way. They will demonstrate an understanding of design principles as applied to a two-
dimensional surface, while exploring a variety of media and techniques. Ultimately students will create a body of work that
exemplifies both experimentation and a sustained investigation of their own design for submission to the College Board. *This course
will not be available until the 2023-2024 school year. Students should plan their course of study accordingly.

When writing about your work:
Don't tell the reader what you didn't do. Tell your reader what you DID do and follow it up with WHY.
Use art terminology. You know the elements and principles, they are also on the bottom of the analysis form.
Read your work out loud! You'll catch awkward phrases and incomplete sentences this way.
