Freshman World History

Welcome to West Springfield High School, students! Freshman World History is a full-year course that offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the processes that, over time, will result in the knitting of the world into a tightly integrated whole. Throughout the year, we will explore world religions and cultures, trade connections, scientific and artistic achievements, and political events. We will begin our studies with an overview of major world religions and will then use a thematic approach to examine world history from the 13th through the 20th centuries.

This course emphasizes student-centered learning. Throughout the year, we will develop our skills in analytical reading and writing and the critical evaluation of primary and secondary sources. Each week we will have lessons that include all or most of the following: group activities, lectures, primary and text readings, critical discussions, writing skills activities, and videos.

All assignment deadlines can be seen on the unit calendar below. Please remember that some assignments are not posted in Classroom and that students are responsible for collecting and completing all work after an absence. Check below the calendar for a list of upcoming assignments for your class.
