The Junior ROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) is the nation-wide academic competition for JROTC programs. It consists of two preliminary virtual rounds, which cuts the field of competitors from over 1,700 teams to 40 (Leadership Division) or 32 (Academic Division), and a third, in-person round in Washington DC in June. West Forsyth has one of the best programs in America, winning the National title for the Leadership Competition in 2018, a 5th place finish in 2022, a 6th place finish in 2023; and a 17th place finish in the Academic Division in 2024
Our season starts in October with an individual practice round, from which the top cadets are merged into a cohesive unit; continues through the first round in November; second round in February; and, if good enough, the championship round in June, where we not only compete against the sharpest young minds in the country, but get to do some experiential learning in the Capitol.
