Questions
What Worked?
The structure was a good fit for me. I enjoyed feeling more independent and having control over my projects. The class became more personalized than I could have imagined, and it changed the way I thought about flexible pathways.
What did not work?
Honestly everything worked very well. I think the 80/20 ideal is something that works very well for me.
What could I have done differently to make my Flex experience more successful?
I wish that I had more time to dive into my projects, and maybe collect a broader scope of topics, but I'm proud of what I accomplished.
What could my teacher or Flex team have done differently to support me?
I genuinely can't think of a single thing. I felt just supported enough to plan my projects out and brainstorm, and then take the rest into my own hands.
Would I recommend a class like this to a student
Absolutely!
Why?
I know a lot of people who dread the typical PE class. It can be very smelly, and generally overwhelming. I'm sure a lot of people at other schools would largely appreciate another option. I also just thought the class was fun, and I learned a lot about myself.
What I learned as a student:
I work better when I create my own structure. When I got to set my own goals and plan my projects, I was more motivated and focused. It taught me that I thrive when I'm trusted with independence and given the space to organize my time in a way that works for me.
Consistency matter more than perfection. I used to feel like if I couldn't go all out on something, it wasn't always worth doing. But I learned that small actions add up.
My physical and mental health are intertwined with how I learn. Tracking different parts of my life helped me notice patterns that connected to taking care of my body.
