What worked for you in FLEX?

The flexibility in flex was very helpful, figures. I liked having occasional meetings to keep me on track, but as a motivated person finding a bit of freedom in my days was helpful, especially with a teacher who trusted that I would complete everything I planned to do. The course also forced me to document and keep track of my work much more closely, something I probably wouldn't have bothered doing otherwise. I greatly appreciated this though, when college applications asked for documentation and numbers about my process.

What Didn't work for you in FLEX?

I have a hard time with scheduling and time management, especially when I need to remember some short meeting a week in advance. This meant a bit of a learning curve for me, completely spacing scheduled Flex meetings. This got better over time, though.  There were also times when documenting my process felt like it was impeding my progress, like needing to constantly update my college spreadsheet, but this was never a terrible inconvenience.

What would you do differently to make your FLEX more successful?

I would utilize the help of Ms Thielen, my counselor, and other school admin and resources to a further extent. I don't think I looked far enough into the opportunities offered here. For instance, I didn't attend any college app or scholarship information meetings, and didn't meet with Ms Pacheco or Rhonda Winegarner very often. There are a lot of opportunities here, and I think there are a lot of students who would benefit from them but just don't take the time. I'm sure these things would have helped my Flex progress.

What would you need differently from your FLEX team to make it more successful?

I think my flex team did wonderfully, I wouldn't change a thing.

Would you recommend a FLEX course to someone, why or why not?

It depends who, of course, but I would certainly recommend a flex study. This course takes a lot of motivation and discipline, and it also requires the student to have a fairly clear idea of what they would like to achieve. Without a specific enough goal in mind, I could imagine others easily getting lost in the process or falling off track. However, Ms Thielen helped keep me on the right path, and overall the course gave me a great opportunity to expand my horizons beyond what BUHS classes might be able to offer.
