Learning, Growing, Leading . . . Together!

This year Kindergarten will be using a Modified Choice-based Art program where they will work in studios and be given some choices with their artwork. Grades 2-5 will be participating in a Choice-based Art program where students will be able to earn badges.

Modified Choice & Stations

This style of teaching will be used with Kindergarten and with ALL grade levels when opening studios.

The teacher demonstrates the technique or skill students must use; students choose the theme, subject, and/or media. Students may also learn skills from other students who are more versed in this area. Students then design their project that showcases that technique or skill.

Students do not work at a Studio until the demo for the studio has happened, and that studio is officially opened. The Studio Key MUST be earned by a student before they can work in that particular studio. The requirements for the Studio Key are the minimal necessary procedures/skills for student success in that particular studio.

Choice or TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior)

This style of teaching will be used with grades 2-5.

This style of teaching regards students as artists and offers them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of art. This method supports multiple modes of learning and assessment for the diverse needs of students. The teacher demonstrates a technique or skill (badge); students choose to try the demonstrated skill, or continue working on previous skills.

Students will:

  • Plan- including a sketch and explanation of their idea.
  • Reflect- naming the skills/techniques/media used, providing evidence from their artwork supporting this, and providing an artist statement.
