Please practice these words at home. Some ideas are writing them on index cards and hanging them around the house to hunt for, writing them with sidewalk chalk, etc.
Sight words will be listed here!
We will work on concepts of print. Understanding how books work and that they tell a story in order to teach us something. We will follow print when reading and going from left to right pointing under each word.
Here is a great FREE online resource to practice reading at home!

Read with your child EVERYDAY and talk about the books you read! This is so important for your child's reading and language development.
This week's vocabulary words:
chores, contribute, member, organize, accomplish
We will be telling stories through our pictures and adding labels. We will also work on writing sentences and showing students that sentences start with a capital, have spaces between words, we write a letter for each sound we hear, use good handwriting, spell the sight words correctly and end with the correction punctuation.
Letters, Sounds, and CVC Words
We will hit the ground running learning all 26 letters letters and sounds of the alphabet! As we learn more letters we will be working really hard to hear all the sounds in a word. We are listening for a beginning, middle and ending sound and making sure we write a letter for each sound we hear.
Each week your child will be introduced to several sight words. Hang these words around the house to help your child see them constantly and remember them! There is a poster to help learn a word too!
Here is a wonderful website to use to practice various phonics skills with your child: https://phonicsandstuff.com/
Use this chart to help your child practice the sight words that are listed in your child's daily folder!
First quarter we love to start with our geometry unit! We will be comparing solid and flat shapes as well as identifying them.
We will also work on writing our number to 10 and counting to 25.
We are so lucky to be able to utilize two programs to meet our science curriculum standards in Kindergarten!
Nature Unfolds:
This is the curriculum from our Missouri Department of Conservation. We will learn to observe nature using our 5 Senses by studying the plants and animals. We will even get to go on a field trip to Busch Wildlife to help us explore the world around us.
MySci:
MySci are amazing, hands-on science kits we get from Washington University in St. Louis. It is such a great program to get the students involved and really fall in love with science. We will do three units from MySci on our 5 senses, push and pull, and end our year learning about the sun and shade.
Design Challenges:
We love to read books and solve the problems or think about real problems in our world and create and design ways to fix them! These are hands-on creates that the students get to design. Through these designs we learn about the engineering processes. We will complete several design challenges throughout the school year!
The following are links on the importance of learning through play and different video lessons on sharing and kindness for your kids! We will also go over The Essential 10, our Green Tree Expectations. Showing use of the Essential 10 will help your child earn points for his or her house!
