Petsmart and PetCo should be more mindful and educated when it comes to their animals such as rodents, reptiles, fish, cats, dogs, and birds.
Both PetCo and Petsmart have been reported on multiple occasions of animal abuse. Rodents are put in small, dirty, and unsafe enclosures. Reptiles are often placed in terrariums that are so much smaller than they need to be happy and healthy.
Although rodents and reptiles have it bad so do most if not all the other animals in the facility, the puppies are held in small cages with metal wire bottoms which can make their paws sore and raw. Instead of fish being free in the wide open water they need they are often circling the same place over and over again.
Birds' cages are too small for them to be healthy and happy and most pet stores clip their wings to make flight harder to achieve, clipping their wings can also hurt them if cut too deep.
Cats are also put into small cages and don't have any room to roam, they don't have climbing areas or any toys which can lead to depression in cats.
Even though this is already bad enough petCo and Petsmart have been reported to throw away live animals. Rodents and reptiles are caught in oil and glue traps if they escape and left to die. Most pet stores do not have the proper diet the animals need.
