Staff Spotlight: Ms. Swan ESC
At Pearce Hall, our beloved Miss Swan is one of the much-loved birds in the building. Her office is like a cuddly nest full of comfort, joy, and fidgets.
When she flies away, the birdhouse falls from the tree. Fights break out, eggs are overwhelmed, worms are about, and feathers are flapping. Jokes aside, we are a better flock when our Swan is here. Educational Support Counselors (ESC) are a vital part of the success at Pearce Hall.
Ms. Swan made it known, “Mental health is just as important as physical health. It’s okay to be nervous when going to therapy, so make sure you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist.” She also stated her job can be difficult, “Being overwhelmed with other people's problems can be challenging.”
In talking with Pearce Hall students and staff, they agree that Swan is a crucial reason Pearce Hall is the best. Caleb Coad, 8th Grader, stated, “No matter what we do, no matter what happens, she will always be available to help us.”
Even the staff confide in our ESC’s for their expertise. Michele Gilbert, Instructional Assistant, revealed, “Swan is a good listener, kind, and cares about students. She has a lot of training and experience, so she's able to help students out. She really wants to be able to help students with their mental health and see them be successful.”
Middle and High School can be some of the most challenging years of your life. Even if a student seems, looks, or even acts okay, everything could be falling apart in their world. Everyone, young or old, is going through something. Not all students have a therapist outside of school, so an ESC is a valuable resource for all students here at Pearce.
