Hello! My name is Katie Fischer and I am the Educational Support Counselor (ESC) at Barfield Early Childhood Center.
I wanted to take just a little time to tell you about myself!
FAMILY
I am blessed to be a mom and wife to two awesome guys! My husband and I have been married for 14 years. We enjoy traveling, eating out at new restaurants, and bike riding together. He works in IT and does his very best to understand my life as an educator. We couldn’t work in more different careers! We have one son. He loves all things science, soccer, and Pokemon! We are outnumbered in our house by animals! We have two dogs, fish, two birds, and a hamster. My son’s love for animals has created a small zoo in our home!
Education and Career
In 2001, I graduated from Drury University with my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. The same year, I started my career as an elementary school teacher in the Wentzville School District. I taught one year at East Elementary (now Heritage Intermediate) in 4th grade and then was fortunate to be chosen to teach at Crossroads Elementary for its inaugural year. I stayed at Crossroads for 12 years. I taught 3rd grade for 10 of those years and loved every minute of it!
In 2005, I graduated from Lindenwood University with my graduate degree in School Counseling. After my 11th year of teaching, I knew it was time to leave the classroom when one of the school counseling positions at Crossroads became available. I jumped at the chance! I was a school counselor in the Wentzville School District for five years.
Being a school counselor ignited a fire in me for the mental health needs of children. I became overwhelmingly passionate about helping kids cope with self-regulation, anxiety, big feelings, and loss. While working as a school counselor, I obtained my License in Professional Counseling (LPC) and also became a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). In 2019, I began as the ESC at Barfield and am blessed to work with the littlest littles in our school district in the best way possible! It has been quite a journey but I couldn’t be more happy with where I’ve been and where I’m headed!
HOBBIES
I enjoy spending my free time with my family. We enjoy bike riding on the Katy Trail, traveling, watching movies, and cooking together. If I’m ever gifted time alone, I love to read, scrapbook, and watch tv.
