CRISIS COUNSELOR

The crisis counselor (Educational Support Counselor, or “ESC”) assigned to Liberty H.S. is Collin Miller, who can be reached at collinmiller@wsdr4.org. Working in conjunction with school counselors, the ESC is a licensed mental health professional employed by the school district. She provides specialized therapeutic services for students who exhibit serious social/emotional challenges which interfere with academics, behavior, and/or social/emotional functioning at school. She facilitates psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention and counseling; helps link students with mental health and community support resources; consults with faculty, staff and parents/caregivers as part of student support teams; and assists in coordinating groups and prevention programs for students.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS

The content and curriculum of several high school courses is intended to help all students develop personal and social competencies. Specifically, students learn to manage stress, make safe and healthy choices, and maintain positive relationships with others. For many years, the school district has partnered with several community agencies which specialize in providing preventative education regarding coping skills. Agencyemployed staff have passed a background check process, and work under the administrative supervision of the building Principal. If for any reason you object to your child’s participation in any agencyfacilitated classroom presentation, or would like additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor, Principal, or Mrs. Rustemeyer.

The list of classroom presentations can vary from year to year.

We expect to provide presentations for 9th graders on the Signs of Suicide prevention program (SOS), in order to teach them how to recognize warning signs of depression and potential suicidal behavior and know how to get help. The SOS program is taught by Chads Coalition.

In addition, 11th graders will participate in a presentation on Emotional Wellness and Coping Skills, facilitated by Kids Under Twenty-One (KUTO). Students will learn about stress, triggers and ways to cope when upset.
