Our Story
Other high school tournaments are bigger and some have been around longer, but none match the Winnipeg Invitational Tournament for the combined package of quality, tradition, and prestige. Conceived in 1974 by a small group of basketball-crazy coaches and teachers, WIT made its debut two years later and quickly became the crown jewel of high school hoops.
Throughout its history, WIT has welcomed teams from across Canada as well as American programs, reflecting its roots as the Winnipeg International Tournament. Now entering its 49th year, the event marks a historic new chapter with the addition of a girls tournament alongside its long-standing boys competition.
While the caliber of basketball has always defined WIT, equally impressive is Tec Voc’s role as host. Students, teachers, and volunteers come together to create a true spectacle including banners, photos, live video, halftime events, and more.
