During Grades 3 and 4 we will be working on some of the same musical skills and concepts from Grades 1 and 2, with some added precision and complexity. Here are some examples:
Continuing to practice singing on pitch with increasing accuracy and additional parts, i.e. two part singing
Playing instruments (xylophone, non-pitched percussion, recorder, etc.) with increasing accuracy and expressiveness
Improvising simple rhythmic and melodic phrases
Looking for and finding themes, motifs, and ideas in music and creating their own
Rehearsing, revising, and refining music to perform for others
Describing the purposes of music in their own communities, and in other places and times
Describing and analyzing their own and other's musical works and performances
All of these skills and concepts will be learned a variety of ways, such as through games, reading and writing, singing songs, and playing of instruments.
Music learning is cyclical, meaning we will go through all of these skills and concepts, (and more), repeatedly throughout the year.
