Bassoons provide a unique, "reedy" bass sound that adds a specific character to the low end. They often double the tuba or trombone but are frequently used for quirky, staccato bass lines or hauntingly beautiful melodies in their higher register.

Bassoonists have a massive drive to learn everything they can, yet they are often the first people to get lost in a daydream. They are lovable and persistent, but never too proud to use their instrument to impersonate a foghorn (or other humorous sounds) just to lighten the mood.
