Musical Role
The bari sax is the engine of the saxophone section. Their role is to provide a rhythmic, driving bass line. When the band needs a lot of energy and a "boomy" low end, the bari sax is the instrument that makes the audience feel the beat. The often double the tuba part to add support and texture.

Bari sax players live for the moments where they carry the entire band with a big, boomy, loud line. They thrive on power and volume, which is only slightly undermined by the fact that they occasionally spend a few measures looking at their neighbor, wondering exactly where the band is in the music.
