Skills for Learning

Skills for learning involve our whole body and mind. Specifically taught, they are Eyes on the Speaker, Ears Listening, Quiet Mouth, and Body Still. The Second Step program promotes school success by directly teaching and practicing these skills for learning in the younger grades. The Second Step Research shows that...

  • students who can self-regulate are better able to participate in and benefit from classroom instruction.
  • self-regulation skills are promoted and practiced through games for the Kindergarten-Grade 3 and through direct instruction for learning across all grades.
  • Skills for learning are necessary for having empathy, managing emotions, and solving problems.
