The process for determining eligibility may include the following steps:
Screening: If the child has not been previously screened or evaluated, a screening will be conducted to determine if further evaluations are warranted.
Referral Conference: A referral conference will be held if the screening indicates further evaluation is needed. This conference is where the team will decide what areas to evaluate and obtain parent permission to conduct the evaluation.
Conduct the Evaluation: An evaluation will be conducted. This helps determine the strengths and needs the child has and to see if they qualify for services.
Programming Conference: After the evaluation is complete, a conference will be held to discuss the evaluation data and determine if services are appropriate. At this conference the team will develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) based on the child's needs.
