Curriculum We Use In Our School
Letter Sound Recognition
Fundations(R) introduces letters according to how frequent they are seen in print. It also introduces lowercase letters first because most of the words we read and write are written in lowercase letters.
Fundations(R) matches every letter of the alphabet with a picture that starts with that letter, except for the letter Xx which uses the ending sound. The students learn the letters by saying the letter, the picture, and then the letter sound. For example: f-fun -/f/. (//=letter sound) In our classroom we bring one more aspect to the multisensory approach by adding sign language (ASL) . We say and sign the letter, the picture, and then sign the letter for the sound.
Fundations Writing Grid
The Fundations(R) program has identified each line with a picture to help the students learn letter formation. When writing a lowercase b the teacher will say, "Start on the sky line, go straight down to the grass line, trace back up to the plane line, around and down and land on the grass line."
