Directions on How to Start Zoom and Join a Meeting

These are the steps that need to be done, in the order listed below

1. Go to your launcher.

2. Open the Zoom App

3. Minimize the app either by clicking the Zoom App icon again or click the - button at the top right of the screen.

4. Click the Zoom Link provided to you by your teacher.

Common Issues

1. Every time I try to access a Zoom Link, the Zoom App opens up and I get a message that says "This meeting is for authorized attendees only. Click 'Sign In to Join' to sign into Zoom with an email address authorized for joining this meeting"

    • The Zoom link was clicked without the Zoom App open in the background. Click leave in the pop up box and make sure the steps below are followed

    • You will need to open the Zoom App

    • Minimize the App by clicking on the Zoom App icon again or by clicking the - button at the top right of the Zoom App screen.

    • Click on the Zoom link again and it should open up to your Zoom meeting

2. I click on a Zoom Link and all I see is a window that says "Your meeting should start in a few seconds...", but nothing ever happens

It's either that the Zoom App failed to open, the Zoom App's window did not pop up automatically, or you are not logged into the Zoom App.

Follow the steps below

1. Check to see if the Zoom App is open. The icon should be visible on your bottom toolbar.

2. If it is not, go your launcher (circle in the lower left on Chromebook). Click on the Zoom App again to minimize it. Once you've done this, either click on the Zoom link again or refresh the Chrome page. It should open up in the Zoom App.

3. Everything I try with the Zoom App doesn't work. I can't get it open or logged in right

If you still cannot open the Zoom App, you can still join by the browser. Once you click on the Zoom Link, two things happen. One, a new tab is opened in your Chrome Browser and two, the Zoom App opens automatically.

To use the browser instead of the Zoom App, once the Zoom App opens up, close out of it. You will see there is a option in the new Chrome tab that opened up with a link that says "If you cannot download or run the application, join from your browser". Click this and you will join Zoom through the browser instead of the Zoom App.

4. When I click on the link I get a message saying "This meeting ID is not valid. Please check and try again"

The Zoom Link that you are trying to access has ended and is no longer being used. The Zoom Links used should be provided to you by your teacher. Make sure you are clicking on the correct link.

5. I connect to a meeting, but it just keeps saying "Connecting..." in the App and doesn't go into the Zoom meeting.

If this happens to you, close out the Zoom App, open it back up, and click on the Zoom link again. Between the App opening and you being placed into the waiting room, it shouldn't be longer than 1 minute. Sometimes the App gets stuck and you will just need to try to join again.

6. The Zoom App is not taking me to the correct link for a current meeting, but instead is taking me to a meeting that I previously attended. I need to clear my history.

Click on the dropdown menu in the Meeting ID or Personal Link Name and choose "Clear History".
