Parents and Guardians of Room 2,
We have been working hard over the last few weeks, and I would like to share a few updates and important dates on the horizon.
A few parents have asked for an outline of what we will be working on in math, so I thought I would share the WRDSB's long-range math plans website with everyone. Please click on the links below to see the overview of the year and connected resources:
I also received many requests for homework from parents at the open house last week, and I would like to gather your input on this. Please click the link below to complete a quick survey:
We actually do have a short homework assignment this week that is due tomorrow or Friday. Yesterday, students were asked to research an interesting fact about Canada to share with the class. They should be prepared to share 2–3 related points or ideas about their fact. Some examples we have already discussed include:
Canada is geographically large, but has a small population.
Canada has the longest coastline in the world.
Canada has the most islands of any country.
We have also been learning about Terry Fox this week in preparation for our event next week. Students are encouraged to bring in "Toonies for Terry" as a donation toward cancer research. The Terry Fox Walk will take place on Monday, September 28, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Families are invited to join us on the back field to cheer on our runners or participate with us!
A few reminders:
Binders: Please send in a 1-inch binder as soon as possible. We really need them to get our papers organized.
Locks: A few students still need a lock so I can assign them a locker. Please send one in as soon as you can.
Indoor Shoes: Students are encouraged to bring a pair of indoor shoes. These keep our floors clean and are required for gym class.
Important Dates:
September 24: Happy Birthday, Kyle!
September 28 (9:30–10:30 AM): Terry Fox Walk
September 30: Orange Shirt Day / National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
October 3: Happy Birthday, Sargun!
October 12: Thanksgiving (No School)
October 16: Happy Birthday, Ruheen!
November 2: Picture Day
