In planning for the first few weeks of mathematics instruction, educators are encouraged to consider how mathematics lessons might be designed to support students as they adjust to their learning environment. Instruction during these first weeks might focus on:
co-creating a sense of community that is focused on mathematics learning (e.g., collaborative working norms, accountable math talk, etc.);Â
building classroom routines (e.g., manipulative use, roles and responsibilities, flow of math lessons, etc.);
reflecting on personal strengths and Social Emotional Learning Skills and the Mathematical Processes
