International Business

BBB4MI, International Business Fundamentals

Our world has become more interconnected than ever, and it is important that we see how each country manages the challenges our planet is facing. How does Canada trade lumber with Egypt? What are "tariffs" and why are they always in the news? Is North Korea a dictatorship? How did a YouTube commercial in Japan perform so well, but was received terribly in the United States? In this course we explore each of these ideas and more, from the perspective of running a business on the international stage and through the lens of developing a greater cultural awareness.


Economics

CIA4UI Economics, Grade 12

If you have ever been curious to understand why gas prices change so much, why the government increased the minimum wage or how to predict changes in the stock market, this course is for you.  Economics is the study of how people interact with things of value; in particular, the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. So understanding economics is fundamental to running a successful business.  In this course you will learn about the principles of micro and macro economics. In a nutshell, you will learn to predict the future activities of consumers and how to make business decisions based on this information.

Business Leadership

BOH4MI, Business Leadership:  Management Fundamentals

Being a great leader boils down to understanding people. In this course you will learn about personality, the differences that build strength on a team, and how you can understand the people you work with so that you can motivate and create successful outcomes.  We look at management theory from the beginnings of the assembly line, to 21st Century Management theory in today's largest companies like Amazon and Apple. You will learn about the factors that create success and how to foster a positive environment in a changing world. If you want to be an inspiring leader or learn how to better understand and collaborate with the people in your life, this course is for you!

International Law

CLN4UI, Canadian and International Law

Come explore Canadian and international law in social, political and global contexts. We will study historical sources of law, the principles of international law and will learn to relate them to issues in Canadian society and the wider world. The focus of this course is on constitutional law, with particular emphasis on the development, application and influence of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and ongoing human rights concerns worldwide. 

FInancial accounting

BAT4MI, Financial Accounting Principles

This course will extend your knowledge and understanding of the world of Accounting gained in BAF3MI. You will further develop accounting methods for assets and be introduced to accounting for partnerships, and corporations. You will also learn to interpret and analyze a variety of financial statements to make important business decisions.  This course is highly recommended to all students considering post secondary education in business. 

Prerequisite: Grade 11 Financial Accounting, University/College


Entrepreneurship

While coded as a Grade 11 College course, this was not offered last year and is a great opportunity for you to do hands on experiencial learning about starting and running your own business and a great course to consider!

BDI3CI, Entrepreneurship; The Venture

So you want to know what it takes to run your own business? This is the place to start!  We focus on the ways Entrepreneurs recognize opportunities, generate ideas and organize resources to plan successful business ventures. You will plan and run your own business in class and through that hands-on experience, develop the values, traits, and skills most often associated with successful entrepreneurs. No matter your goals for the future, the skills learned here will help you succeed!
