CLU3MI, Understanding Canadian Law

Come explore Canadian law with a focus on legal issues that are relevant to your everyday life. Students will investigate fundamental legal concepts and processes to gain a practical understanding of Canada’s legal system, including the criminal justice system. Students will use critical-thinking, inquiry, and communication skills to develop informed opinions on legal issues and apply this knowledge in a variety of ways and settings, including case analysis, legal research projects, mock trials, and debates. The focus of this course is on criminal law including law enforcement processes (investigation, arrest and detainment) and courtroom procedures (trial preparation, jury selection, legal defenses and sentencing).

You will plan and run your own business in class and through that hands-on experience, develop the values, traits, and skills most often associated with successful entrepreneurs. No matter your goals for the future, the skills learned here will help you succeed!

While coded as grade 12 courses, many students take these courses in their grade 11 year.
