Explore. Design. Create. This introductory course invites students to explore drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking while learning a variety of techniques and styles. Students will develop their understanding of the elements and principles of design and how artists use them to create effective artwork.

Students will explore functional art, discovering how creativity and purpose can come together in selected projects. Through hands-on experimentation with different materials and processes, students will develop their skills and creative interests.

Students will also learn to develop, discuss, and interpret artwork using creative and critical analysis processes. This course provides a strong foundation for further studies in Visual Arts.

For Beginner Grade 10 Students

This introductory course is for students who DID NOT take Visual Arts in Grade 9. Students will explore a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking, while learning a variety of techniques and styles. A special focus will be placed on functional art—creating artwork and objects that are both creative and useful.

Students will become familiar with the elements and principles of design and use creative and critical analysis processes to develop and discuss their artwork. They will explore art within personal, contemporary, and historical contexts. This course provides a strong foundation for further studies in Visual Arts while giving students the opportunity to create, experiment, and make art with a purpose.
