Visual Art courses (AVI) allow students to explore traditional art mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking, as well as learn about art history, art criticism and design concepts. These courses progressively develop skills from grade nine to grade twelve, while expanding the range of mediums and techniques introduced. As students progress through these courses the amount of freedom surrounding topic choices, concepts and mediums increases.
This course enables students to develop their skills in producing and presenting art by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Students will apply the elements and principles of design when exploring the creative process. Students will use the critical analysis process to reflect on and interpret art within a personal, contemporary, and historical context.
In this visual arts course, students will expand and develop their knowledge of various media techniques and their creative thinking skills. Drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking will be explored in unique and inventive ways, including mixed media projects. A range of art history movements will be introduced, while art criticism skills continue to be developed.
In this course, visual art students will use techniques explored in previous courses to develop a body of work based on a concept of their choice. They will have creative freedom to use the media of their choice, working to their strengths and interests. A range of art history movements will continue to be introduced, while art criticism skills will be refined. Students may choose to provide some of their own supplies for the independent study component.
