Sometimes, journaling can be a relaxing and rewarding experience. Other times, it can be frustrating, and only make matters worse. Here, we have collected a few tips and tricks to help journaling be enjoyable and become a coping mechanism. Good luck!
Put it into your daily/weekly routine:
As with other habits, journaling is easier to stick with if you commit to it. A method of implementing it, is always journaling at the same time each day.
ex. Journaling before bed or when you first wake up
Don't be hard on yourself if you miss a few days from journaling:
You're bound to miss a couple days here and there, it's fine if that happens, just get back to it when you can!
Don't filter your thoughts:
It's important be true to yourself, and write exactly your thoughts. At first it may be hard, but it will get easier as you practice.
Pick a setting you're comfortable in:
Whether by playing music or getting a hot drink, make sure you're comfortable in your environment. This ensures that you're able to express your authentic self, unafraid of others' judgement or prying eyes.
