January News - Vol. 1 & 2

Important Information

  • Bingo & Baskets donations needed. We have some amazing room moms putting together a travel-inspired basket for us (room 308) to auction at our PTC Bingo event on January 24th. Donation ideas include but certainly are not limited to the following: road trip games, cooler, snacks, gas cards, neck pillows, essential oils, headphones, audio books, travel mugs, or travel organizer bins, etc. Anything to help make a road trip a little more happy for all. If donating cash is easier, Misty will make purchases to finalize the basket offerings.

  • Walk Through California (in-school field trip / presentation) - This is coming up fast! Students were assigned their expert cards at the end of the day Tuesday. They will bring these home this week to do a little research and work on their memorization. PLEASE brainstorm costume ideas with them. Costumes do NOT need to be elaborate! Borrow, borrow, borrow from friends and relatives! I have seen miners, farmers, ranchers/cowboys, Native Americans, redwood trees, fish, cows, pioneers, gamblers... even a full shell-themed outfit to represent the ocean! Kids get some extra points for their team if they dress up! This special event is open to parents as well (you don't have to dress up :-))! We will start promptly at 12:00 on Wednesday, January 22nd. Check out this link for more information: Walk Through California Website - Parent Info

  • Read to Succeed (Six Flags Reading Program) - This reading program is underway and ends the first of April. Reading logs went home right before break. Your child can track reading minutes directly on their log, or the minutes can now be entered online. Instructions and a code for tracking minutes online can be found on the form. Scroll down and print another form if you need it! 360 minutes of leisure reading = 1 ticket to Six Flags. 😊

Celebrations!

  • We had such a great time with our nacho bar heading into break on Friday the 20th! THANK YOU for donating all the items to make our nachos a success. It was a perfect spread! A special thank you too to our helpers who set up, served, and cleaned up like pros! It was a day for the memory books!
  • I feel blessed, proud, and supported here working with your children. Thank you all so much for the time you have spent in the classroom, the support you provide at home, and the effort you make to stay on top of all that comes with being a TBE parent! I am happy to be a part of your lives as we now welcome 2020.

What We're Learning

    • Language Arts ~ We are opening our minds to the world of poetry. We will focus primarily on figurative language and descriptive writing while we spend time studying some poetry and composing a few original works too. We will be reading a short novel called Love That Dog, by Sharon Creech, to support our learning.

    • Math ~ Fractions are here! We will be exploring the concept of equivalent fractions in topic 11, then comparing and ordering them. Currently, we are identifying factors which will help students simplify their answers as we move toward adding and subtracting fractions.

    • Social Studies ~ We are ready to learn about the first European Explorers in California. Students will practice their research and note-taking skills while reading about these early explorers.

    • PE ~ Four Square, Team games

    • ART ~ Students are creating clay pieces... a perfect project for the first week back!

  • PLEASE help your child meet their 20+ minute reading requirement each night. This is part of their NIGHTLY homework. iReady minutes (40 in reading, 40 in math) need to be met by Sunday at 8:00 pm.
