house parents

A House Parent is a volunteer role similar to a Room Parent, but built around Wortham's House System instead of an individual classroom. Rather than supporting one teacher's class, a House Parent helps support one of Wortham's six houses — Rêveur, Isibindi, Onraka, Altruismo, Nukumori, or Amistad — throughout the school year.

This is a new role at Wortham, and exactly what it looks like will take shape as the year goes on and as houses identify what kind of support is most useful. Broadly, a House Parent might help with things like:

• Coordinating communication between the PTA and families within a house

• Supporting house-specific events, spirit days, or pep rally participation

• Helping organize or promote a house's community project

• Assisting with house-related volunteer needs as they come up

Do I need any special experience?

No — just enthusiasm for your student's house and a willingness to help out where needed. This role will likely evolve as we learn what works best, and early volunteers will help shape what it becomes.
