What Wortham parents need to know about the 1:1 Chromebook program — damage reporting, nightly charging, and the optional Accidental Damage Protection Plan.Â
Every Wortham student is issued a school device as part of Frisco ISD's "1:1 In the Middle" program. Technology is central to daily instruction and state-mandated testing, so a working, charged device matters every single day.Â
When your student brings their Chromebook home, take a few minutes to check it over. 5th grade students have until August 28 to report any existing damage without incurring a fee. All damage must be reported through IIQ — do this before the deadline, even for something minor, since damage reported after the window may be charged to your family.
Chromebooks need to be charged at home each night so students have a working device for the full school day. This is the single most common issue that trips families up early in the year — make it part of the evening routine alongside backpacks and lunches.
Frisco ISD is offering an optional protection plan for the 2026–2027 school year, available to all students in the 1:1 program — including 5th graders.Â
How it works:
Cost: a nonrefundable $20 annual fee per student (reduced rate available for families who qualify for free or reduced lunch)
Coverage: the first instance of accidental damage each year is covered at 100%, or at a significant discount if the whole device or screen needs replacing. If multiple parts are damaged at once, coverage applies to the most expensive repair.
Not covered: intentional damage or damage from negligence — those are billed at full repair cost regardless of enrollment.
Enrollment deadline: pay the fee through Online School Fees by September 4, 2026.
If you don't enroll: your family pays full market price for any Chromebook damage as it occurs, and the student won't have the option to keep the device over the summer.
If your student transfers to another Frisco ISD campus or leaves the district, the Chromebook must be returned to the campus.
Enroll or pay the protection plan fee through Online School Fees (already loaded to your student's account)
See the district's 1:1 Accidental Damage Protection Plan one-pager and Student Device Handbook on the FISD Technology webpage.
