We are so excited that 5th grade gets to go to camp! This will be a fun and memorable experience for our students, and we are looking forward to sharing all the details with you.Â
As part of the FISD education curriculum, Wortham Intermediate School provides an exciting opportunity for our 5th graders, who can't wait to make some great memories at camp! This is a school-district function, not a PTA function, but it's definitely one that parents want to know more about.
The Day Camp is a field trip to a local camping site where students and teachers will have fun doing outdoor activities and learning in nature. The camp is usually about an hour away from Wortham. On this page, we're going to cover general information about 5th Grade Day camp so parents generally know what to expect.
Each year, the school will be holding a parent meeting to discuss all the important details about this year's camp. Please try to attend if possible! They will go over everything you need to know and will have an opportunity to answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please know that an email summarizing everything discussed will be sent to everyone afterward.Â

Parent Information Meeting - Wed, Sept 9 at 6 pm in the Cafeteria
TRIP DAYS:Â
Black and Orange Houses - Tuesday, October 6th
Blue and Red Houses - Wednesday, October 7th
Purple and Green Houses - Thursday, October 8th
Sure! Here are some general things to know about camp in advance of the parent meeting:
Camp is not overnight. It is a day-trip only to a campground about 1 hour away. The actual camp location will be announced each year by the school.
Bus transportation is provided to/from camp. Busses will leave Wortham Intermediate at approximately 9:00 a.m. and return at approximately 8:00 p.m.Â
Important info about getting your child to and from school: If your child is a bus rider, they may still ride the bus to school that morning, but all students will need to be picked up from Wortham Intermediate at approximately 8:00 p.m. on their designated camp day. NO BUSSES will be taking the kids home at night when the field trip is over. You must pick up your child at school.
Each House will attend camp on a designated day and they will be broken into smaller groups for a better experience instead of sending the entire 5th grade from 4 elementary schools. For example, it could look like this:
Day 1 - Black and Orange Houses
Day 2 - Blue and Red Houses
Day 3 - Purple and Green HousesÂ
There is a student fee for attending camp. Costs are kept extremely low, but the cost helps cover transportation and other expenses of the trip. For example, it could be a $20 camp fee + optional dinner fee (approximately $5-7). This will be discussed at the parent meeting.
After the parent meeting, the school will send emails from your child's Advisory teacher with additional camp information, reminders, and updatesÂ
All chaperones are welcome! There is a $20 fee per chaperone. More information about chaperone expectations and payment will be shared at the parent meeting.
Have you completed a background check through Frisco ISD? Background checks must be filled out EACH school year. To find information on completing the FISD background check go here: https://www.friscoisd.org/about/resources-and-information/background-checksÂ
If your child does NOT attend camp, they are still expected to be at school for alternate learning activities on that day. If they are not at school, they will be marked absent.Â
