Exporting

This tutorial covers the export process from SketchUp to the Collada format. The exported model does not support all the features of the SketchUp model. What gets saved is the geometry, colors, textures, and model hierarchy. It does not include features such as lighting, shadows, layers, scenes, and text. Vizard, however, with it's built in libraries has the ability to replicate many of the features that don't carry over. Look here for a complete description of the export options and what's included in the Collada model.

Since the time of writing, there have been updates to the SketchUp software and Vizard's model format support. SketchUp Make 2017 and earlier free versions support Collada export. As of 2018, the free version of SketchUp is a web based application that requires the purchase of a SketchUp Shop subscription to unlock the Collada exporter. SketchUp Pro supports export to the glTF model format with a glTF extension. glTF is supported from Vizard 6 and is the preferred format for bringing in SketchUp models. It typically yields better results with materials than Collada.

Hit Control + A to select all geometry:

This ensures all geometry, textures, and the hierarchical structure of the model is preserved in the export. Press OK to close the dialog then press the Export button.

When exporting the entire model it's not necessary to select all contents and enable the 'Export Only Selection Set' option. In this particular case, exporting the selection set works to resolve a bounding box issue that occurs in the exported model. The more common way of exporting the entire model is to leave everything unselected in the scene and then use the following options:
