Where do I go when I arrive at school?
Year 5 and Year 6 will enter the school via the KS2 gates. These are the ones in the middle which lead straight onto the KS2 playground. A member of staff will be on these gates every day.
What are the school opening and closing times?
The school gates open at 8.30am and the school bell will ring at 8:45am each morning – please ensure that you are on the playground ready to line up for registration when the bell rings. It is important that you are on time or you will miss out on important notices. The end of the school day is 3.15pm.
What do I do if I’m late for school?
If you are late, you need to go to the main office where you may be asked to sign in electronically.
Do I need to be collected by my parents or carers?
You can make arrangements with your parents or carers to collect you at the KS2 gate every day, meet them elsewhere or walk home. We want you to develop your independence, but this must be decided by your parents when they feel you are ready.
How long are the lessons?
Each lesson is 1hr long. There are 5 lessons throughout the day. You will receive your own timetable on your first day. This will explain what lessons you have each day.
How much is a school dinner?
A school dinner costs £2.30 and this includes a main meal and dessert. There are lots of options which you can have at lunch time from the dining hall and the menu will be on display each week. You do not have to book this in advance.
Can we get snacks at break time?
At break time, you can bring your own snack to eat in the dining hall and you can also purchase food from the dining hall. You must not eat food on the playgrounds. At break time snacks range from 25p up to £1.
Is drinking water available?
You will have the opportunity to fill your water bottles up at break time and lunch time at the water fountains. The Year 5 fountain is located outside Nurture. Your bottle will need to have a wide neck to make it easy to fill up.
There is also a water jug in the dining hall at lunchtime. You can purchase juice and flavoured water at break and lunchtime in the dining hall.
How do I pay for food?
Woodfield Academy uses a cashless system. You will be given a 4 digit code to use to purchase food and drink. Your parents can set up a ParentMail account to pay for your lunches, snacks, trips and other items. There is also a machine in the dining hall which will allow you to add cash onto your account. This can be used at break time.

Can I bring a packed lunch?
If you would prefer to bring a packed lunch, that is fine. We encourage you to bring a healthy lunch, and we ask that you do not bring nuts to school as some children in our school have allergies. Unfortunately, we cannot heat up any food for you, so only bring food that you can enjoy which is cold.
What do I wear to school?
We take pride in the way we look at Woodfield Academy. Our Uniform Policy will give you more information about what you need to wear. You will find this in the information for parents.
Can I wear jewellery?
We ideally ask that you do not wear jewellery to school for safety reasons. If you have got your ears pierced you may wear one small stud earring. You can wear a watch (which is not linked to a mobile device), but this must be removed for any physical activity. If you choose to wear a watch, it is your responsibility to look after it.
Are there any lunch time or after school clubs?
We encourage you to attend as many clubs as you can. Clubs range from sports to Pokémon to Drama. A timetable for these clubs will be given to you in September.
Can you earn rewards at Woodfield Academy?
Yes. When you start with us, your form teacher will explain our Reward System to you in more detail. You can earn positive points which add up throughout the year. These then all add up to rewards. You can gain positive points for many things ranging from one positive for contributing in class to a 50 point headteacher award for something exceptional.
What is a restorative conversation and what happens if I get one?
At Woodfield Academy we focus on 3 main rules. We focus on the positives.
If for any reason you are unable to follow the school code of conduct you may receive an ‘After School Restorative Conversation’ the next day from 3:20-3:50pm. During this time you will be able to talk to your teacher to set targets to support you moving forward. Your form tutor will go through this in more detail on your first day.
I do not know any other children going to Woodfield Academy. Will I make friends?
Yes! You will make lots of new friends. Woodfield Academy is a happy and friendly place to be. Just remember that at first everyone will be as nervous as you. Don’t be afraid to say hello.
Can I bring a phone to school?
We request that you do not bring a phone to school. Should you need to bring it in your phone will need to be turned off and handed in to a member of staff in the school hall before registration. At the end of the day you will be able to collect your phone from a member of staff outside Nurture.
Who can I talk to if I am worried?
There are lots of adults and other children at Woodfield Academy who can help you if you are worried. You will see your form tutor every morning in registration where you will have time to discuss any concerns. You can also talk to Mrs Freeman and Miss Chapman.
Will I get a locker?
All Year 5 students will be allocated a locker. This will be done by your form tutor. You will not need a padlock or key.
