Since you will be accessing these learning opportunities from home, it's important to eliminate as many distractions as possible. This will look different in each home and for each learner. For some it might mean no cell phones in the work space and for others no TV. Whatever this looks like in your home, a work space free of distractions will help the learning process.
Remote learning is a great time to help your student learn organizational skills that work for them or to continue with what is already working. Staying organized during this process will help learners stay on top of the learning activities.
Maintaining a daily schedule and set of routines similar to the regular school day may help keep your student knowing what to work on and when.

Even though this learning is happening outside of the school's walls, it's important to remember to follow the same expectations we would follow in our classrooms.
If your a teacher is hosting a virtual meeting, be sure to follow the same language and dress code rules we would expect in school.
Be aware of what is in view of the camera you are using for the virtual meeting.
Google Classroom is a free collaboration application for teachers and students. Teachers create online classrooms, ask students to attend the class, and create and give out assignments. Learners and teachers can communicate about the assignments within the platform and teachers can monitor students' progress. Students use Google Classroom in conjunction with their Google Suite of programs, including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and other programs similar to Microsoft Office.
Parents can request access to a teacher's Google Classroom to monitor online activity, and their student's participation in class. For more information check with your student's teacher.

Make sure you have given zoom permission to access your camera or mic.

Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool that can be used online with a computer, or with a mobile app. Students do not have to have a computer or a cell phone with data to participate in a Zoom meeting. Teachers will provide a toll free phone number for students to call into if the internet is not available. Teachers will send out Zoom invites through Google Calendar, or post them in their Google Classroom. In addition, a list of Staff Zoom office hours will be mailed home with paper packets weekly.

Remind is a free and secure messaging app that keeps families up to date with what is happening in the classroom. Teachers can send messages to an entire class, smaller groups, or individuals. Teachers can share access codes to allow students to receive text messages and reminders without having to share their private cell phone number.
