Woodberry is taking its first group of students to the Cloud Forest School this spring. We plan for it to be the beginning of an ongoing relationship. This trip has the main goals shown below, which we intend to keep in mind throughout our adventure.
The CEC (Centro de Educación Creativa), as it's formally known, is a bilingual school for students in preschool through grade 6 located in Monteverde. They have the following information on the school website:
“We are focused on serving the students of Monteverde and the international community.
For over 30 years, our school has provided high quality bilingual instruction with an emphasis on environmental education.
Our institution is dedicated to the development of future generations of ecologically aware, academically complete and culturally competent citizens of the world.”
You can read more about the CEC on its website.
You can watch this 6-minute video to learn more about the CEC as well.
We are committed to helping the CEC with various projects that need to be completed on campus. The school runs on the work of volunteers, and when we bring a group, it's a huge help.
We are committed not only to embracing and helping in the environmental efforts of the CEC but also to helping bring this culture to Woodberry upon our return.
We plan to have some fun, too. From ziplining to a waterfall hike to a raft safari to ATV riding and more, we'll be experiencing a broad spectrum of adventure.
Trip Leaders
This trip is being led by a pair of math teachers, Joe Fischer and Jeff Cohen. While Mr. Fischer has taught at Woodberry for a quarter century, Mr. Cohen arrived in 2024. Mr. Cohen chaperoned the trip to Costa Rica and the CEC nine times while teaching at Mercersburg Academy.
