MASSACHUSETTS LEADERSHIP WOMEN'S MARCH ON WASHINGTON

STATE LEADER

Tami Gouveia currently serves as the lead organizer for the Massachusetts Chapter of the Women’s March on Massachusetts. Tami is committed to building an inclusive team built on the tenets of intersectional feminism and celebrating the many ways in which our diverse communities can work in solidarity to create a just, free, and equitable future to which we all aspire. Tami has built a solid reputation as an advocate for social change. Her successes in non-profit management, social work, and public health are the result of a vision for a better future for all, an openness to new ideas and can-do attitude, and an ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders across the state. Tami seeks opportunities that challenge her to think strategically and to work in collaboration for inclusion of all voices.

Currently, Tami serves as a program director at ReThink Health where she is responsible for testing RTH’s tools in various user contexts and evaluating the organization’s work for long-term impact. In addition, Tami leads efforts to integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the organization’s practice areas and strives to create spaces and opportunities for health system leaders to effectively address health inequities in their regions.

A strategic thinker, an expert at building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, and a community advocate, Tami launched several non-profit initiatives in substance abuse prevention, youth development, and health and safety throughout her career. As executive director of Tobacco Free Mass (2013-2015), Tami lobbied for improved access to cessation services and policies to protect vulnerable populations from tobacco industry tactics. In 2013, Tami led a team of advocates in Senator Jamie Eldridge’s Senate District (Middlesex and Worcester), to secure 2,000 signatures to get minimum wage increase and paid sick leave questions on the 2013 ballot.

Tami currently is working on her DrPH public health at Boston University, where she also earned her MSW and MPH degrees. She also holds a BA in urban politics and policies from Mt. Holyoke College.
