Unit 4: Trigonometry Lessons
L1: Determine length of missing side in a Right Triangle.
Use Pythagorean Theorem and/or Area of Squares to determine the length of the missing side.
L2: Name the sides of a Right Triangle relative to an acute angle.
Name angles with Upper Case Letters and the sides opposite each angle with the corresponding lower case letter.
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
L3: Write Three Ratios for an acute angle in a Right Triangle.
Express SINe, COSine and TANgent ratios as fractions.
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
L4: Write Three Ratios for an acute angle in a Right Triangle.
Express SINe, COSine and TANgent ratios as Decimals (4 decimal places).
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
L5: Determine (find) the side of a Right Triangle using SIN (sine), COS (cosine) or TAN (tangent).
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
Write the three ratios: sin A, cos A, tan A
Cross Multiply with the best ratio for solving.
L5 Notes and Video Summary (Example One) (Example 2 and 3)
L6: Determine (find) the measure of an acute angle in a Right Triangle using SIN (sine), COS (cosine) or TAN (tangent).
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
Determine the best ratio to solve for the missing angle.
L6 Notes and Video Summary (Calculator Skills) (Examples)
L7: Putting it all together: using SIN (sine), COS (cosine) or TAN (tangent).
Identify the sides of the triangle as Hypotenuse, Opposite and Adjacent.
Write the 3 Ratios: SOH CAH TOA
Determine the best ratio to solve for the missing angle.
L7 Notes and Video Summary (Examples 1ab) (Examples 2ab)
L8: Problem Solving.
Solve Right Triangle problems using Pythagoras and/or one of the ratios: SIN, COS or TAN
Angle of Elevation (looking up from the line of sight)
Angle of Depression (looking down from the line of sight)
If you look up at an angle of 75 to see a person on a balcony then the person on the balcony is looking down at the same size angle, also 75.
L9: Unit Review:
Solve Right Triangle problems using Pythagoras and/or one of the ratios: SIN, COS or TAN
Trigonometry Minor Assessment:
Solve Right Triangle problems using Pythagoras and/or one of the ratios: SIN, COS or TAN
